Chapter 1 A generous gesture Acts 4:36–37 The first thing we need to know about Barnabas is that Barnabas was not his real name! His real name was Joses (the Greek form of Joseph). ‘Barnabas’ was a nickname given to him by the apostles. The AV calls it a surname, ‘Joseph Barnabas’.
